Plancha style fire cooking, on a heavy-duty steel ring over a fire pit, delivers great flavour. The hot flat grill sears uniformly, producing a tasty crust while locking in moisture. Our plancha ring has both plate and grill areas, so that you can also chargrill for a BBQ finish. The Plancha Fire Pit has an 80cm fire bowl and is a hip height model, perfect for keen fire chefs, and even better to gather around.
For use with seasoned wood or charcoal, heat up the flat Plancha grill and pour a few drops of water onto the surface to check that it’s ready for action. If the water forms beads then you’re ready to sizzle. Marinate your food rather than add oil to the surface, and dissolve cooking juices using vinegar, wine, soy sauce or lemon. You can scrape the juices off then and add to your dishes.
Like all our fire pits, the Plancha is made from quality British steel in our Monmouthshire workshop. The 8mm steel grill plate and 3mm steel fire pit will oxidise as it settle into your garden, developing a rich rusty patina. The rust does not affect the longevity of the fire pit. Using a lightly flavoured cooking oil and a good blast with the fire will help keep the cooking surface rust free.
Accessorise your Plancha fire pit
Long handled spatulas, like our fire pit paddle, are ideal to use with the Plancha fire pit, and fire pit gloves are essential. The Plancha grill plate partially covers the fire, making fire tools like our blow poker and ash rake, useful for flame control.
Maintaining your Plancha fire pit
NB: All our fire pits, lids and accessories will begin to rust immediately and will not maintain their black finish. However, this will not affect their long term durability. As all our fire pits are handmade from sheet steel which has naturally occurring blemishes, there may be very slight variations in the forging and finish.
